Bijapur, which can be proud of the finest Muslim monuments of the Deans, is often declared “Agra of the South”. This comparison is partially true: for more than three hundred years, it has been the capital of many powerful rulers, whose mausoleums, mosques, enormous civil buildings and fortifications are reminiscent of the past golden age of unsurpassed prosperity and artistic sophistication.
