Vaishali is the site of the last Buddha’s sermon and birthplace of the last Tirthankar (Prophet) of the religion of Jainism, a small village 55 km north of Patna. Historians consider Vaishali the most ancient city-state in the world with a democratic system. After Prince Gautama (the future Buddha) left his family and his kingdom, he came here and underwent spiritual training. In the end, he abandoned the teachings of his guru and founded his path of salvation.
