Matheran is a hill station and municipal council in the Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a hill station in Karjat Tahsil and is also the smallest hill station in India. It is located on the Western Ghat range at an altitude of about 800 m (2625 ft) above sea level. It is located about 90 km from Mumbai and 120 km from Pune. The proximity of Matheran to many capital cities makes it popular on weekends for city dwellers. Matheran, which means "forest on the forehead" (mountains) is an environmentally sensitive region, said the Government of India, the Ministry of Environment and Forest. This is only a car without a hill station in Asia.
