Nasik ( Nashik ) is a city in northern Maharashtra, 187 km. from Mumbai. Nasik is located on the banks of the Godavari River among the hilly Western Ghats of NASIK and is one of the 4 venues for the All-Indian Hindu festival Kumbh Mela . Nasik, translated from Sanskrit means “nose”, though I couldn’t find out what the city owes its name to. There are several temples and ablution basins in Nasik, but all the temples date back to the 17th century or later.
