Kottayam (Kottayam) is a city in the Indian state of Kerala. It is located in the central part of the state and is the administrative center of Kottayam. The population is 60,725 people (2001). The lively commercial center is strategically located between the backwaters and the plantations of spices, tea and rubber. About the long history of Kottayam as a settlement of Syrian Christians are two churches of the 13th century, located on a hill 5 km north-west from the center, reachable by rickshaw.
