Kollam (another variant of Kilon) is a city and port in the Arabian Sea, in the southern part of Kerala . Kollam is located at the mouth of the river Callada, which spreads in the lower reaches, forming Lake Ashtamudi. Kollam stretches between the seashore and the lake. Port Kollam has been the center of international trade since ancient times. Phoenician, Roman, and Chinese merchants traveled here. In the Middle Ages, the value of Kalama did not weaken, the city was even the capital of the state of Venad.
