A small village located at the foot of the powerful peak Kinnaur Kailash at an altitude of 2759 meters above sea level. The town is 260 km from Shimla (the capital of Himachal Pradesh) and 14 km from Rekong Peo (the capital of the district) on the old Indo-Tibetan way. It is a charming and picturesque village, transmitting the spirit of local traditions, surrounded by picturesque landscapes. Kalpa became known to the General public after a visit to it in the XIX century by the British Governor-General Lord Dalhousie.
