Chennai (formerly known as Madras, a 369-year-old city) is the capital of the southern state of Tamil Nadu and the sixth most populous city in India with a population of about 7.45 million (2005). This city, among others, is considered the main gateway to South India, is also known for its rich local culture and colorful landscapes and is a popular destination for medical tourism.
